What causes hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids occur when the veins around the anus or lower rectum become inflamed, swollen, and irritated. This can be caused by straining during bowel movements, sitting for long periods of time on the toilet, pregnancy, obesity, and chronic constipation or diarrhea. Poor diet and lack of exercise may also contribute to developing hemorrhoids.
